Asian Amateur Inter-Team Golf Championship 2016™ (AAITGC2106)

The Grand Final Venue

Bintan lsland is the largest of 3,200 islands in the Riau Archipelago and the third largest of 27 provinces. Located at the crossroads of one of the world’s oldest and busiest maritime trading routes, Bintan has provided a safe haven to traders and sailors from Europe, and for over a century. It was on the island of Bintan that the Sultan of Malacca found refuge from Portuguese attack in the 16th century, mapping tales of legendary importance when Bintan grew as the centre of the powerful Johor Riau Sultanate.

Penyengat, on the northern tip of Bintan Island, became home to the Maya-Bugis nobility during the 18th century. Remnants of this glorious royal past are still evident in Penyengat’s Royal Mosque believed to be built on egg whites, Town Hall, the old Dutch fort, mausoleums and palace ruins.

Set foot on the northern shores of Bintan Island, and you'll be greeted by a totally different scene and mood. Bintan Resorts, a 23,000 hectare development, offers just the right setting to rest and relax.

The south of Bintan Island is also home to quaint fishing towns with an easy-going and relaxed kampong (local village) atmosphere. Numerous kelongs (fishing houses built on stilts above sea) flourish on southern Bintan, with some serving up delicious seafood for tourists.

Accessible via direct high-speed ferry service from Singapore's Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal (TMFT) to Bintan Lagoon Resort Ferry Terminal. From Changi International Airport to TMFT, the drive is about 10 minutes. From the Singapore Cruise Centre, it is a 25-minute drive to TMFT. The direct ferry service takes 75 minutes. SEAVIEW COURSE – Jack Nicklaus Design

Designed by the masterful “Golden Bear”, the course offers majestic sculptured bunkers, a strategic use of the natural landscape and some unique water hazards. The Par 72 Jack Nicklaus Sea View Course measures 6443 meters with five different tee locations to suit golfers of all abilities

Red Tees     4,592 meters
White Tees  5,317 meters
Blue Tees    5,808 meters
Gold Tees    6,155 meters
Black Tees  6,443 meters

Designed to be enjoyed by players of all standards, the premier highlights of this sea view course are:

12th Hole - A par 3, with a stunning backdrop of the South China Sea. Due to the high winds at certain times, club selection can be increased by at least four clubs, especially from the championship tees.

13th Hole - This par 4 has a unique feature of a split green, as one of the streams on the course runs through the middle. This makes it the most difficult and tricky hole on this course.

18th Hole - A tough hole characterized by large bunkers and rolling mounds.

WOODLANDS COURSE – Ian Baker-Finch Design

Designed with the front nine holes snaking out from the resort and the back nine to the clubhouse, the Woodlands course has been laid over dramatically changing terrain. The main feature of this course is the large undulation of the natural landscape. The overall concept for the Ian Baker-Finch course was to work closely with the natural site.

Many of the greens are surrounded by steep slopes and mounds to create an amphitheater effect. It will entice, challenge and reward the seasoned player, while the less experienced will find it flexible enough to suit their ability. The par 72 Ian Baker-Finch Woodlands course measures 6211 meters, with five different tee locations to suit golfers of all abilities.

Red Tees     4,406 meters
White Tees  5,168 meters
Blue Tees    5,567 meters
Gold Tees    5,976 meters
Black Tees  6,211 meters

Course highlights include:
8th Hole - The elevated tee at the 526-meter par 5, is a favorite with many. Stretching downhill into the distance before rising to the green, it demands absolute precision from golfers who must negotiate their shots past bunkers, a lake and a solitary tall tree.
13th Hole - On the elevated tee, take in the enticing vista of seaside villas and ocean. This hole is affectionately known as “beauty and the beast”.
